COURT REFUSES TO PERMANENTLY SUSPEND STRIKE

The labour court today refused to grant Vodacom a permanent interdict against a strike by the Communication Workers' Union. Instead, the matter will be heard again in court one more time, on April 16. The company has been granted time to attempt to resolve the issue the way we have always wanted it to be solved: by dialogue and negotiations.

The company should not be fooled that the problem will go away on its own. As workers we do not accept today, nor will be accept tomorrow, blind submission to injustice. They can delay a month, but the problem will always come back. In the end, they will have no choice but to sit down and negotiate.

We must also be vigilant of provocations by the company. Vodacom has humiliated itself by letting things escalate to this point. Instead of accepting their mistakes, managers may resort to venting their frustration on workers. We must be very vigilant and not give the company excuses to do this. We must also be ready to fight for each and show the company the meaning of

AN INJURY TO ONE IS AN INJURY TO ALL.
